Międzynarodowy Konkurs Kompozytorski na utwór na trio: skrzypce, wiolonczela, fortepian

The prizewinning work will be on the programme as a compulsory piece of music in the 3rd round of the
competition “Franz Schubert and Modern Music”, taking place in 2018, in the category “Piano Trio”, i. e. it will be
played by all ensembles in this round.

The International Competition “Franz Schubert and Modern Music” is a chamber music competition in the
disciplines of “Duo for Voice and Piano (Lied)”, “String Quartet” and “Trio for Piano, Violin and Violoncello”,
and it is a member of both the World Federation of International Music Competitions and the Alink-Argerich
Foundation.

The competition shall be open to the public, encouraging composers of all nations to take part.

To be submitted:

A composition for a trio comprising piano, violin and violoncello. The work must neither already have been accepted for a premiere performance, nor been performed in public, nor been awarded a prize, nor been published.
Maximum length: 15 minutes
Latest date for submission: February 28th, 2017 (date of postmark, email)

The scores must be submitted as three anonymous copies in a separate envelope or electronically in PDF format (max. format DIN A3), marked with a code name chosen by the applicant.

Age limit for composers: 38 years, born after March 1st, 1978

Jury: Annette Bik, Chia Chou, Clemens Gadenstätter, Adriana Hölszky (invited), Klaus Lang, Alexander Stankovski,
Johannes Maria Staud

In a meeting chaired by Elisabeth von Magnus, Vice Rector for Arts at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, the jury will select the prizewinning work by July 2017. The participants will be informed of the results thereafter. The official award ceremony will be scheduled as part of the 10th International Competition “Franz Schubert and Modern Music” in
February 2018 in Graz.

Prize: € 5.000,–

The executive committee of the competition shall leave it up to the jury to split the prize and, if so, to present the award for two works.

In addition to the cash prize:

1. The award-winning composition will be incorporated in the Repertoire of the 3rd round of category “Trio for Piano, Violin and Violoncello” of the 10th International Competition “Franz Schubert and Modern Music” as a compulsory piece of music. In the case of two prizewinning works, the choice will be left to the participants.

2. As with all previous editions, the 10th International Competition “Franz Schubert and Modern Music” will be featured on the CD series “Klangdebüts”, released by the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. This CD, consisting of live recordings of the competition, will also include the prizewinning composition, performed by a selected Finalist ensemble.*

3. All compositions submitted will be named in the publications relevant to the competition and incorporated in the Library of the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz.

4. All prizewinners will be invited to take part in the award ceremony. Travel and hotel expenses shall be paid by the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz.
