Book Presentation and Discussion
“Belladonna. Austria’s Women Artists 1960–1980”
"Belladonna" portrays more than forty contemporary Austrian women artists who reflect on their artistic careers and bodies of work through images and conversations. The result is a foundational publication in feminist-oriented art historiography, offering a well-grounded insight into the Austrian art world of the 1960s and 1970s, a time when careers, academies, and awards were largely reserved for men.
Ultimately, the titular belladonna plant and its healing poison symbolize the uncompromising will to change a male-dominated art world, as well as the confident and talented women who had to fight hard to secure their rightful place in contemporary art.
