In the face of rapid climate change, a dramatic loss of biodiversity, rampaging destruction of ecosystems, and an overuse of Earth’s resources the exhibition aims to link CLIMATE CARE with digitalization. Our impulses are meant to contribute to an understanding of how to use digitalization’s potentials for future ecological viability of human civilization. Whereas nature generates no waste as it thrives in use cycles, fossil industrialization has developed a destructive counter program: a linear economy and society operating by the “take—make—waste” principle extracts resources from Earth, manufactures products with them, and after their use dumps those products on Earth as waste (“from cradle to grave”). Taking the VIENNA BIENNALE FOR CHANGE motto of PLANET LOVE as its starting point, a future-oriented mindset is based on nature’s circular program and makes it the Leitmotif of CLIMATE CARE.

It is against this backdrop that an interdisciplinary project team has generated ideas for digital innovations which may foster future ecological viability, paying special attention to climate protection, resource conservation, circular strategies, ecoliteracy, and ecological transparency. As effective implementation of biological and technical use cycles will be central to an ecologically and socially sustainable society, the project focusses on circular thinking and an extension of circular economy principles into a circular society which may act holistically. It also focusses on how digital innovations may assist us in such a transformation.
