On the session Austro-Hungarian Joyce at the XXX International James Joyce Symposium

Walter Gehr‘s paper examines James Joyce's relationship with Austria, both in his biography was well as in his work, especially in his novel Ulysses. Both aspects were shaped by Austria in its historical form as double, Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. The paper furthermore looks into the Austrian influences on Joyce by authors like Sigmund Freud and Sacher-Masoch as well as into the reception of this novel by Austrian writers such as Stefan Zweig, Arthur Schnitzler and Hermann Broch.
