Purple is the Color will perform a program based on their own compositions, in which modern jazz meets improvised music, elements of ambient music, and subtle European melodies. Founded in 2016 by Austrian pianist Simon Raab, the quartet is one of the exciting voices of the young European jazz scene and was selected for the NASOM 2020/21 program, which supports the presentation of young Austrian and Austrian-based artists on international stages. Featuring Simon Raab on piano, Robert Schröck on saxophone, Martin Kocián on double bass, and Michał Wierzgoń on drums, the ensemble creates music based on exceptional chemistry, attentive dialogue, and a balance between emotion and intellect. The group's name refers to their sonic philosophy: red represents the heart, blue the mind, and purple becomes the meeting point of the two. In this space, elegant, intense, and colorful jazz is created, sacrificing neither energy nor intimate subtlety. Purple is the Color has released the albums "Unmasked", "Epic" and "Unbemanntes Raumschiff", and their music will be heard as a journey through contemporary European jazz, full of tension, pulse and emotional depth, as part of the Jazz in Ruins festival and the Austrian Summer Sounds series.
