XV Bydgoszcz Science Festival:
Scientific Revolutions

The Bydgoszcz Science Festival
is a recurring event that has been held since 2010. The origins of the Festival go back to the Science Days organized between 2006 and 2009 at Kazimierz Wielki University. The academic community of Bydgoszcz decided to join forces and create a joint event whose main goal is to popularize science. Thus, in 2010, through the cooperation of Kazimierz Wielki University, the University of Technology and Life Sciences (now Bydgoszcz University of Science and Technology), and the University of Economy, the first Bydgoszcz Science Festival was organized.

Today, the event is jointly organized by five universities in Bydgoszcz:

Kazimierz Wielki University,
Bydgoszcz University of Science and Technology,
Collegium Medicum of Nicolaus Copernicus University,
University of Economy,
Bydgoszcz University.

In this year’s edition, thanks to cooperation with the Austrian Cultural Forum, the Bydgoszcz Science Festival will have the pleasure of hosting Austrian scientist Professor Robert Sablatnig. In addition, visitors will have the opportunity to visit the Austrian Cultural Forum’s booth at the Festival in Młyny Rothera. The stand will provide festival participants with information about the activities of the ACF, as well as about studying and career opportunities in Austria, and about similar festivals, fairs, and events taking place in Austria.

Prof. Robert Sablatnig, born in 1965, holds a Ph.D. and habilitation in Computer Science from TU Wien. He served as assistant professor (1992–2003), associate professor of computer vision until 2010, and has led the Computer Vision Lab since 2010. Since 2019, he has directed the Institute of Visual Computing & Human-Centered Technology at TU Wien. His research covers 3D computer vision, photogrammetry, robot vision, machine and deep learning, video data analysis, document analysis, multispectral imaging, and applications in industry and cultural heritage preservation. He has edited 17 conference proceedings, authored over 300 scientific publications, and (co-)organized several international computer vision conferences. He is founding chair of the IAPR Technical Committee 19, treasurer of the Austrian Association for Pattern Recognition, and serves on the IAPR Governing Board. Sablatnig is also a certified expert witness in computer vision.
