Exhibition
Get to know Austria!
Organisers: Main Library of the University of the National Education Commission in Kraków, Austrian Cultural Forum in Warsaw, Polish-Austrian Society – Kraków Branch
Exhibition Curator: Prof. Dr. habil. Łukasz Tomasz Sroka
Situated in the heart of Europe, Austria is among the most popular travel destinations. We admire the elegance and style of Vienna, we are enchanted by the beauty of the Alps, and every year the winter resorts attract hundreds of thousands of skiers. We listen to the music of Mozart, the Strauss dynasty and Gustav Mahler, and the New Year’s Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic always leaves a lasting impression – even if most of us only watch it on television. We savour Austrian cuisine, appreciate the coffee served here and indulge in its sweet delicacies. Yet tourist routes and attractions are not everything – it is worth taking a closer look at the country and its people, to discover Austria’s history and culture in all their complexity. The exhibition sheds some light on Austria’s past and present while drawing attention to the sources of knowledge about the country. The materials gathered in the exhibition, diverse as they are, indicate where we can obtain reliable and up-to-date information about Austria. We hope that our exhibition will capture your interest and inspire you: that those who have not yet visited Austria will be encouraged to go, and those who already have will gain a deeper understanding of the country.
