Monika Leisch-Kiesl and Joachim Leisch are exploring the roots and specific rhythm of Tango Argentino. During this process, it has become apparent that Tango Argentino also has Jewish roots, that it also tells Jewish history/ies, and that the music of Tango could even be played in the concentration camps. A distinct segment of the inexhaustible reservoir of Tango Argentino unmistakably suggests connections to klezmer music and is further developed until today.
As part of a workshop, the couple will give a brief introduction to the Jewish traces of Tango Argentino and enable participants to gain some basic experience of this dance, which is again very popular worldwide. The workshop is aimed at people of all ages. No previous dance experience is required.
In the evening, the couple will dance a few pieces of Jewish Tango in the vestibule of the synagogue. The intention is by no means a perfect dance performance, but rather to give the audience an impression of the specific atmosphere of (Jewish) Tango.
