ON-LINE-Workshop
Kaoko Amano & Tomasz Skweres
Workshop on modern singing techniques and new cello-playing techniques as well as a short presentation on the music scene in Austria.
The organizers of this event are Help Musicians Ukraine and the Austrian Cultural Forum in Warsaw.

Kaoko Amano was born in Tokyo. Initially, she studied singing and music education at Tokyo Gakugei University. Then she completed postgraduate studies at the Vienna Conservatory. She won 2nd prize and special prize at the 8th Emmy Destinn Competition. She mainly deals with contemporary music.
During the workshop, Kaoko Amano will speak about modern singing techniques based on a key work of the 20th century, Luciano Berio’s Sequenca III. The work was written almost 60 years ago, but has lost nothing when it comes to its topicality due to it being innovative at the time of its creation – especially with regard to the use of modern, then completely innovative new playing techniques. In relation to that, this work provides a fairly detailed overview of the singing possibilities and their application in modern music forms. In her lecture, Kaoko Amano will describe the development of singing techniques in the 20th and 21st centuries, beginning with the “pioneer” - the Austrian Arnold Schönberg.

Thomas Skweres – born April 3, 1984, is a Vienna-based Polish composer. He studied composition with Chaya Czernowin and Detlev Müller-Siemens and cello with Valentin Erben and Stefan Kropfitsch at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.
In addition to presenting the new playing techniques on the cello, Thomas Skweres will give a brief overview of the very heterogeneous music scene in Austria, especially with regard to ensembles specializing in contemporary music, but also to festivals of modern music and music universities.

The participants are cordially invited to ask questions and to actively participate in the workshop. The workshop will be held in English as it was primarily designed for young artists from Ukraine who were forced to flee their homeland due to the war.
